Westbrook Sports Dome

The KWSC Executive will be putting forward a Letter of Intent (LOI) on June 15th, 2011 supporting our club’s involvement with the new Westbrook Sports Dome in order to meet our club’s need for a facility to house our indoor soccer season starting the fall 2011 and onward.

As you are aware all members had an opportunity to hear a presentation about the new Facility at a Special General Meeting that was held on Tuesday, May 31st, 2011 at the Ongwanada Resource Centre.  The presentation was given by the owners of the new Westbrook Sports Dome, Ken and Anita Harnden, and an opportunity was given to all members to have their questions answered by the owners.

In summary, the new Westbrook Sports Dome will accommodate a multitude of field sports and the addition of 84,000 square feet of artificial turf with the ability to divide into four smaller pitches for maximum playing time will most definitely help to meet the current and growing needs of youth and adult soccer community in the local and surrounding area of Kingston who are now without access to a dome facility since spring 2011.  Long-term plans include a more permanent indoor structure and outdoor soccer fields several years down the road.

At the end of the meeting after the presenters left, there was an overall consensus from the members who attended the meeting for KWSC to move forward with the LOI.

At this time the LOI only secures our interest to discussing further with the owners of the Westbrook Sports Dome our personal needs for the club.  After all LOI are received from youth and adult soccer community clubs, the Westbrook Sports Dome owners will be providing KWSC with a tentative schedule of available dome rental dates/times, contract obligations, and information regarding the secured deposit.

KWSC is currently not under any contractile obligations with the Westbrook Sports Dome.  Once KWSC Executive has received the information, a special general meeting will be called for its members to discuss our contract obligations (which will include a 5-year commitment to the new facility for dome rental), the deposit, and to determine if its members wish to proceed further.  We expect this latter process will occur in the summer (July/August).

The KWSC Executive will continue to explore all options that are presented to the club by other dome owners over the next several weeks.  It is possible that another option may be presented to our members in the summer prior to KWSC signing the final contract with Westbrook Sports Dome.  Should this option occur, please be assured that members will be informed and allowed an opportunity to hear a presentation and have their questions answered.

At this time we ask that if any teams object to the KWSC Executive putting forward the LOI, to please notify the KWSC Secretary by email (harrismv@kgh.kari.net) no later than Monday, June 13th, 2011.  We ask that only one representative from each team forward their objection and not individual player objections as it will only be counted once.

Team contacts who are forwarding their objection need to record their team name in their email. Unless a majority of teams object to this next step, the KWSC Executive will proceed with forwarding the LOI on June 15th, 2011.

Thank you,
KWSC Executive
